Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

My flowers are 2” and last 2 days.
Lots of blooms.
I received this 2 years ago in Heather's choice. I loved the other4 in this group but I removed this one. The flowers all had brown edges before they were fully opened. They lasted about 2 days in a vase. I mostly grow for cut flowers but Hula is so beautiful it was a keeper.
I love this dahlia. Last year she bore so many blooms on strong stalks--the flowers are simple but the color is fabulous. This year she has been slow to get going, not sure why. My other dahlias are in full bloom and Cutie Patootie has yet to give me a flower. It's going to be worth the wait, though.
Grown in full sun, zone 5 so short growing season. I grow 8-10 varieties with several dozen plants each year. 1.5-2" extremely prolific blooms. Nice pink with contrasting yellow center. Long life cut flower but short stems. Bushy 3' plant with nice full foliage. Prolific, very big tubers. Great plant for lots of color.
I cut a handful of these today and my jaw dropped. They white on the petals with the pink are gorgeous. They looked like painted flowers.
