How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Teddy is incredibly prolific…I just cut 5 long stems yesterday and there were buds in various stages…today there are 4 in full bloom and lots more in various stages of budding.
Orange is not my favorite color but wow, can’t deny it is surely giving the MOST flowers! It is also topping 6 + feet.

Three times, no luck

I ordered Teddy in 2024. it produced one flower and died. They graciously replaced it in 2025. the tuber sent never sprouted so they graciously sent me another replacement. It sprouted. It took FOreVER to grow. it seemed to stall out. then it started growing wonderfully. it got about 2' tall and now it is dying. it is just about done and will be disposed of soon. I do not understand why i cannot get Teddy to survive. I have about 100 dahlias. I have lost three of them this summer, one being Teddy. I guess it's just not meant to be.

Good cut flower very good bloomer

I have planted Teddy for years and it always is a good cut flower. for all my Dahlia tubers, At Planting time I usually add a little chicken dry manure I buy in bag. This is so my Dahlias have a good green start. while you don't need a lot of Nitrogen, you do need some. then I switch to a granulated 5-10-10 every 2- 3 weeks. Later early October I go to a 10-21-23 that gives me the best bloom all growing season from May till frost

One of our favorites. The soft orange color was perfect.

2nd favorite

Of my 40 varieties this year, this is my second-favorite. I have four of these orange beauties producing long lasting blooms that stand proud of the plant. Really nice.

Excellent cut flower

I accidentally gave every single Teddy tuber away so I just ordered more for the next season. This variety used to be one of the "free gift" varieties here several years ago. Generally I try to buy those anyway because it's an indication of great tuber production and robust plants in general. Teddy is prolific and trouble free

Must be me

I bought 4 dahlias, one (Mai Tai) was a dud and never sprouted. The others, Teddy, Awe Shucks and Nicholas do not have flowers. All look healthy, They are bushy with plenty of leaves, but not a single flower bud.

What a pleasant surprise

I received Teddy as a free gift from an order and wasn't expecting to like this one so much. It ties for my most favorite dahlia this year. In my part sun location, it has done well and grew over five feet. It contrasts so nicely with dark green elephant ears and the lawn.
