Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

One of the very few dahlias I’ve planted from Swan’s that didn’t flower or give me a usable tuber
The earliest by weeks. Vigorous and floriferous very pretty . Does great for me here in Laramie at 7200Ft zone 4 perhaps at best, saved tubers bloomed well the next year .
One of my first bloomers in early June in zone 5b!
This one gave me lovely waterlily blossoms all summer and fall on a shorter plant. I had this one by my patio with two other short dahlias — Sayonara and Pink Duchess. Loved all 3 which looked wonderful together. Despite another reviewer’s challenges with tuber production, my China Doll produced several beautiful tubers.
This was a beautiful plan with loads of blooms, but sadly didn't give me a useable tuber for year 2, thus the lower value/price rating.
