EL SOL

I planted the tuber in late May 2024 and it is now early Oct and I have a few buds but no flowers and it is only about 2 ft tall. All the other Dahlias around it are about 5 ft tall and have been blooming all summer. El Sol seems to be a dud

I waited with great anticipation for this to produce flowers, and was sorely disappointed when they finally bloomed in September. I only got one dinner plate size, and it was all yellow. A few more 4-5” flowers came slowly, but they never fully opened, and were also mostly solid yellow. Not worth the wait or the money for me.

Second year growing El Sol. Medium sized clump stored well last winter and not separated this spring. Late summer before it started blooming but then went on and on. Large dandelion like yellow puffy flowers. In October was 4 foot high and wide, covered with flowers and big healthy buds. Was blooming til hard frost late October.

This dahlia took VERY long to grow and bloom, and even now in mid September I've only gotten two blooms from her, but those two blooms were well worth the wait. They are huge and true to color. They are almost hard to put into bouquets because the one bloom takes up the entire vase. You got to have patience with her, but once she blooms, you'll be amazed!

This was the one big-flower-sized dahlia I chose for 2020 and it is amazing! Stem stalks are massive, bigger than a quarter diameter at the base and the blooms are massive, full yellowish blossoms. They do not disappoint! Such an impressive member of the garden!
