Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

I adore these for cutting. This is the first year, and I'm getting a fair amount of blooms, 5" wide in a delicate lavender. Blooms are not as bright as shown in the pictures here. I love them anyway.
My Ferncliff dahlia has been an absolute showstopper this season! It bloomed early, giving me gorgeous, full blossoms before I even expected them, and it hasn’t stopped — producing multiple stunning blooms that just keep getting better. The soft lavender-pink petals with that dreamy white center look straight out of a flower catalog. Healthy, strong stems and excellent performance make this variety an absolute must-have in any garden. This is my favorite dahlia ever!
This flower was absolutely beautiful! Mine was a light lavender and every flower was so perfect and so large! I would definitely plant again if I wanted lavender blooms. Absolutely gorgeous!
This dahlia is a showstopper. Large blooms on long stems last a long time outside or in. Mine is lighter than the picture shown, but still a beautiful lavender. It is just perfection when it fully opens and stays fresh for a very long time. Love it!!!
This plant bloomed late in August and was somewhat undersized in the garden but the blossom was large on a sturdy stem and the color magnificent. It did not produce many flowers (three total and we are just 2 weeks from hard frost), but the few that did bloom were showstoppers.
