Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Swan’s Sunset’s flowers have been absolutely gorgeous for me this year. The colors look painted, and so very striking. The earlier flowers were deep red-orange with yellow tips. Now that we have cooler fall weather, I’m seeing more yellow/warm orange. They are gorgeous.

Beautiful color...though mostly yellow with orange highlights.
This is one of our favorites. The color continue to change and deepen as it gets older. It is more contrasty when it is young and a beautiful blend when it's older. However, it'd definitely much more yellow, nothing like the picture shows.

Bright!
Very bright yellow with a touch of red orange on the tips of the petals. The plant is about 3 ft tall. The buds are slow to open so that the opening flowers are overwhelmed and squeezed in by the stems of the emerging buds. Still, a really pretty flower...the problem might be that I planted it too close to my other dahlias. If I get any tubers, I will give this one more room next year.

Stunner!
I think this one is my favorite new dahlia of the year. It changes dramatically from the time it is opens to when it is spent. And I find that this makes a great cut dahlia if cut early enough.
