Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Flip Flop is just a beautiful workhorse. The color shades from coral to salmon to pink - goes so well with so many colors. The stems are long and strong, and the flowers keep their heads up - perfect flower for cutting. This is a new favorite.
Correcting my previous review of Flip Flop. It actually did survive the winter after all, along with all the rest! Flip Flop came up a little later than the others, just after I had given up on them.
Flip Flop was my favorite last year. Unfortunately it’s one of 2 or 3 varieties out of 20 that doesn’t appear to have survived the winter. I’m kicking myself for taking a chance and leaving them in the ground. Or a least for not ordering another couple this spring, just in case before they sold out!
This plant is not over run with flowers, but they keep coming, so it's successful for a cutting garden. The color does not fade, is rich and warm and it pairs with so many other colors. I just finished using it with lighter colored salmon and white Oriental lilies and it's a keeper.
