Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Lovely form and good size for arrangements. Strong stems and ages beautifully. Highly recommend
The form of the blooms is perfect, and then with the yellow center is seems like it's glowing. Gorgeous. It wasn't my tallest or most prolific dahlia, but I'll definitely grow it again. Long stems and good vase life, too.
This elegant flower has a powerful dignity, like an old soul. Long stems and less foliage, likes to sprout new stems from the base, so I cut back each stem after the main 2-3 flowers fade. I am a first-year grower, so all my dahlias struggled until I figured out pest control and cut-back routines. I consider this Dahlia an easy to grow survival-minded Dahlia with a weird kind of 'presence' in the vase. My absolute and utter favorite -- looking forward to future years when it reaches great heights like other growers report above.
This is my tallest plant, around 6 feet, should have cut it back sooner! Late to bloom but was worth the wait, will have to see how many I get by the end of the season. Soft pink and yellow, and literally glows! Nice strong stem and is a beautiful star for any arrangement.
Blooms are 7ft and need to be pulled over to see. But worth it--very beautiful.
