How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

If you like dark-colored flowers, this one's for you!

The picture of Hollyhill on the Swan Island website is exactly like the blossoms produced. If you are drawn to this unusual color (like I am) , try it! You will not be disappointed. Big blossoms, long sturdy stems, prolific bloomer, tall, sturdy plant.

This one grows 6-7’ tall in my garden. Flowers are prolific with strong stems. The color complements absolutely every other flower I put next to it in a bouquet!

Dark, Mysterious and Beautiful!

I love these dahlias! They're so beautiful! I usually grow vibrant-colored dahlias like lighter reds and pastels, so these dark beauties stand out in my garden! Mine get about four feet tall and bloom July through November!

Beautiful flower

First time growing this one. She didn't bloom until August like most of my dahlias, but the blooms are large and beautiful and a dark purple -red color. The plant is very vigorous and hopefully makes a lot of tubers. Great cut flowers.

Stunning!

Here in California's coastal fog belt, night time temps rarely hit 60° before August, so our bloom season can start later than other places. Hollyhill Black Beauty just bloomed on a strong, healthy plant with more buds forming. Fully open, the blossom reached 7 inches and is an iridescent, glowing black red. Even more beautiful than the pictures!

Stunning!

I received this bulb from Swan Island in 2020 and it didn't grow. They replaced it for me in 2021 and this one grew into a BEAUTY! I have over 200 dahlias planted and this is in the top 5 for sure. She's statuesque, tall, strong stems that last a good long while in a vase or garden. I will be ordering more for next year.

It's a stunner!

Only 1 of the 2 I purchased grew well & returned for me, but it's amazing! Very tall, strong stems & absolutely gorgeous. I have it in a raised bed at the back of my yard so it appears even taller, and your eye is drawn to it from inside AND outdoors. A winner in my book!

Gorgeous

I gave it 4 stars only because I bought 2 tubers and one never grew enough to bloom. But the one plant that thrived is absolutely stunning. Don't plant these in your front yard if you don't want the neighbors wandering onto your lawn to get a closer look. People in my fairly standoffish community take photographs and gush over them!
