Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

These little darlings are just wonderful. Some have little flecks of dark pink in them. They hold up well cut and add joy to all bouquets. Their perfect little round shape is fabulous. Sometimes we get a “twofer” with two round blooms growing from the same head, back to back, which is really fun. I love that these have great height while not being overly heavy and needing lots of staking like the bigger varieties. They bloomed early which added to their joy!
Absolutely lovely little, yellow POM.
This baby is in her second year and overwintered in the ground in zone 6b/7a. She is topping out at close to 5 feet and is loaded with these wee little poms. She is a brighter yellow and a great accent in bouquets. People always marvel at her perfect orbs. Good stem length, though thin. Love her!
