How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

My Brushstrokes was a later bloomer in Zone 6b, so unfortunately I didn't get a ton of blooms this year. However, I am a first-year grower, so I'm still ecstatic that she bloomed and is so beautiful. 4.5-5" blooms in a dark pink hue. She is lovely.

Lovely in the garden

Brushstrokes produced beautiful flowers all summer long on tall, sturdy stems. I didn't like it as a cut flower, though. The size and shape were nice for arranging but I found that the flowers didn't have many petals and they opened very quickly to yellow centers. It's a nice color in the garden. The petals are gorgeous up close!

So beautiful

I’ve been meaning to replace this one for years after my tubers rotted over the winter when it was my first attempt at saving tubers. It is very aptly named as the petals have a watercolor quality. Gorgeous flowers, can’t wait to grow it again!!
