How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Diva is a showstopper! She’s currently over 5’ tall and the blooms are gorgeous. It reminds me of deep purple grape juice. It currently is the last week of August in upstate NY and this plant is full of blooms.

I ordered two Diva Dahlia bulbs for the beginning of this season. The stalks grew quickly and are very thick. All of a sudden the most gorgeous dahlia blooms formed and keep coming. Everyone who sees my flowers ask where did I get the bulbs from.

Beautiful Blooms; Great tuber maker

Diva is gorgeous!

In my Midwest zone 5b garden, the plant reaches 4.5' high, with 5" flowers atop long stems. The flowers have an iridescent quality to them.

The blooms do very well in the vase. As each bloom ages, the petals in the back darken, therefore it is not obvious they are aging, which provides you much longer vase life than other dahlias. It is one that will stand-out in your bouquets.

Produces many tubers per plant, with each being a nice fat size. I purchased 1 tuber from SID in 2021 and have had great success with storing individual tubers over the winter for the next season. I will be growing this variety forever, just from purchasing 1 tuber.

This is a must for all gardens; you will love it!

First year great! Diva made for me an over 6' bush, loaded with blooms, long lasting as cut flowers. I am grateful for this plant as Japanese Bishop and Envy were quickly destroyed by spider mites.

Absolutely Stunning

It looks like Swan Island hybridized this dahlia in 2010 and what a fine job they did with this one. This plant produces beautiful large blooms that are full. One bloom can last two weeks on the plant before it starts to deteriorate, which is just insane compared to other dahlias. The stems are strong and sturdy. This plant is a must have.

amazing

Not sure how much more you can say except amazing! Big flowers, gorgeous saturated color, long stems, good vase life.

blind tuber

This ended up being a blind tuber. That's 3 blind tubers (and blank spots) from Swan Island this season. Unusual and very disappointing. However, we were in time for Swan Island to replace it and the new one is growing well.

Diva is aptly named

Diva grew over 6 feet in my Iowa garden (zone 5) and its main stem was bigger around than a cornstalk. I had to stake it two or three times but it bloomed and bloomed! The flowers are brilliant and almost iridescent. A real stunner.

It produced many large tubers this fall -- some as big as a medium potato!

true to Name

Absolutely classic form, huge blooms with rich color. A healthy producer without being unmanageably tall in my garden. Vase life has been solid with centers peeking out as they near their end. Awesome more affordable variety.

Will not disappoint

I grow 28 different dahlia varieties and Diva is by far my favorite. It is gorgeous!! Very rich, purple color, almost like velvet. Big, full, deep blooms and very productive. Stems are long and sturdy, and it outlasts most other dahlias in the vase by several days making it an excellent cut flower. Plant grows to about 6 feet for me in zone 5. Second year growing, and it produces moderate amnt of tubers, which I gladly shared with friends and neighbors. :) If, God forbid, I could only grow one variety this would be it.

Incredible & prolific bloomer

This is probably one of my all-time favorite dahlias. I grew it for my bridal bouquet and it did not disappoint. I literally wanted to carry my bouquet all night long. Prolific, beautiful blooms.

Just as stunning as expected

Diva is truly a flower farmers dream! She produces lots of strong sturdy stems, and coordinates with an array of colors in bouquets and arrangements. Excellent as a cut flower, she outlasts many other dahlias I put into my weekly arrangements for my small business delivery service. I wish I could clone her production and sturdiness into other colors.

Queen of the garden

It’s always hard to pick a favorite dahlia, but this one won me over this year with her prolific stunning royal purple blooms. It’s very difficult to capture this lovely color of this bloom in a photo as it literally seems to glow in the sunlight. While I am likely going to have to rotate some dahlias that I have this year out of the plans next year since I was so excited to order new dahlias from Swan Island for next year and I have limited sunny spots on my yard, this one will always have a place in my garden!

Solid performer

I grew Diva last year and had lots of tubers for even more Diva in my garden this year. Good stems for cutting, pretty color, and prolific. Good solid performer. This year I'm tucking several in at the back of my flower beds, and they're looking great!

can't stop looking at it

This dahlia, in the late afternoon light, is like a jewel. It's so beautiful when the sun shines through the petals. I love the wide cups. So elegant and rich looking. Like velvet. People love it as a cut flower--a real eye catcher.

This surpasses them all

I live in Northern VA, I planted this dahlia and several others last year. They did pretty well. In the fall I didn't dig them up, just cut them down, mulched them and hoped for the best. Well this dahlia came back early this year compared to the others and has been ruling my garden ever since. It is HUGE, extremely prolific, and the blooms are perfect. We can't get enough of it. I get tons of compliments from visitors on the cut blooms in our house.
