How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

I enjoy trying different varieties of Swan Island dahlias each year. Some I order because I fall in love with the description/photo, others I order just to try. Hello Dahlia was one variety I bought just to try; I must admit it wasn't a variety I thought would make my "Top Ten". WOW, was I very pleasantly surprised by this dahlia! It has been one of my most prolific bloomers this year and the blossoms are beautiful and long lasting placed in a vase. I really never thought another "maroonish/purplish" variety would come close to completing with SID "Diva"; this one is now running neck and neck with one of the best!!

Ordered this dahlia last year when it was introduced. It’s a winner for me despite a rough weather year here in the Ohio valley. Strong upright plant, great stems, floriferous all season, beautiful blooms, super tuber maker. Grew to 5 foot in my garden.
Definitely a keeper!
