A very special dahlia dedicated to the outstanding staff of the OHSU TRAUMA unit. We will always remember your kindness, dedication and care for Ted Gitts during a very difficult time for our family. Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Lovely plant with only a few vibrant red blooms this first year. I suspect I didn’t fertilize early enough.
Pretty color, but not many flowers for me. Not as full petaled as show.
One of the earlier bloomers in my garden. Reminds me of a rose. Steady long-lasting upright blooms all summer. One of my favorites.
It's a beautiful waterlily that pairs well with Elijah Mason or Teddy in arrangements. The plant is somewhat shorter at 3-4 feet and doesn't absolutely require staking although a bamboo stake won't hurt. It's forgiving of lapses in disbudding and deadheading, gets little powdery mildew so it can be used for no maintenance beds
I couldn’t live without this beautiful RED dahlia. It is so vibrant it lights up the bed where it’s planted.
