Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Great Early bloomer, covered in flowers. I like for my Dahlias to blend in with my other plants. The height and stem length, help Bitsy do this beautifully! Great size flower, for such a short plant, nice foliage. I now live in the mountains, zone 4. Very short growing window. But I just couldn't give up my Dahlias. I usually start them indoors early, and then bring them inside in late fall, since I can't bear to part with them so soon. Mine are a little brighter pink than the photo online. Cheers!
Produced tons of gorgeous flowers.
Wow. This was the first of my dahlias to flower (very generously) and it's still going strong after most have slowed down. Small and neat plant that doesn't require staking and will fit in even a small garden. Everyone commented on how lovely the flowers were. Short stems, but on an 18 inch plant, that's not unexpected.
