Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Prolific bloomer. Big blooms. Strong plant here in 8b PNW. One of my favs this year.
Photos don’t do it justice. Andy’s Legacy is so beautiful. Strong stems. Gorgeous color. If you like what you see here, you’ll love it in person.
So many hues in this bloom.
I was on the hunt for for peachy colored ID dahlias and although I thought the price was high, Andy's Legacy was so appealing that I took a chance and bought one as a test piece. When it opened in early July, after a late March planting date, I rushed to look at the label, because this mauve flower was in my peach colored area. The flower changed to a deep peach with multi colored streaks that made it rich and complex. It held well in a vase and instead of waiting for the tubers to multiply, I'm buying another right now!
