BETTY ANNE

I have a complicated relationship with this dahlia. I treasure it because it is far away the earliest and most prolific Dahlia in my collection and the flowers are complex little treasures. On the other hand, the flowers are small, and the plants tends to be curvy and a bit messy in their growth. But they plants just want to survive, and they grow almost like weeds! My single tuber from three years ago is now over 20 plants. I dig and divide each fall here in Colorado. If each of my 20 plants provides four or five tubers, I have no idea what I’m going to do with them! They just keep multiplying! If you’ve had trouble growing dahlias, this one is for you!

This little cutie exceeded expectations for 2025 in PNW. Grown in a pot, she bloomed early and was a compliment to the lavender I grew on my patio close by. Later, the small blooms set off the larger dahlias in a bouquet, just as I had intended. My bouquet “filler” was Betty Anne and her foliage. The sweet little blooms merely differ from other more showy varieties. They did get smaller as the season went on but were still lovely. Good tuber production. If they don’t over winter (I dig to avoid rot) because I never got the killing frost, I would order this again.

These blooms are delightful! The little pompoms are such joyful little pops of color. They are small (~1.5 inches), which is exactly how they're advertised. I only have a couple plants, but I cut several blooms every day. I get the occasional bloom with "dull color", but this seems to correspond with dry weather and/or when I forget to water. Love this little flower, and I hope to keep cultivating it for decades!

This is the second year for my Betty Anne. It has thin and weak stems and has been a dirty light pinkish hue both seasons now. Not a strong cut flower nor worth the space.

I usually love all my dahlias, but this one did nothing for me. The tiniest blooms & dull color.
