Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

Ordered a ton of Swan Island dahlias - this is among my least favorites and I’ll be giving her away. Plant did just okay, bloomed on the later side, and the coloring was just meh. Was hoping for a more rich or vibrant vermillion but it felt a little on the washed out side. Unfortunately just no reason to keep her since I have so many other ones I loved.
Meh. Small plant, small sparse short-lived blooms. Will give it another chance next year.
This was a beautiful flower!! The one in my garden has reached well over 6' in height! It also has so very many blooms. I am super excited about having this flower in my garden for years to come!
