Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

It's so amazing ????
Poodle Skirt was one of the last in my garden to bloom in Zone 8B, but it is the cutest little anemone and has such a rich purple color. The shorter height is perfect as a 'front row' dahlia or along a border, as I have it now.
Poodle Skirt does have slightly shorter stems, so if you'd like to put it in a tall vase it might not work-- however, this one is to brighten up my garden, so I don't mind.
This Dahlia had so many blooms. It isn't one of my favorites but it did great in the garden
I don't know why it took me so long to grow this anemone bloom. Lovely magenta red. Many beautiful blooms. The only fault I find is it's shorter stems.
