How to Grow

Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

The bloom size is impressively huge, but took forever to open a single bloom and then before it could even fully open the bloom was dying and turning brown. Just okay..

This is by far the STAR and my favorite in my gardens; The petals vary in the color range -some solid purple and deep lavender, others striped in the various shades. All are stunning and 8+ inches across with stems 7 inches. It is in full sun, in 6B near coastal MASS.

LOVE this glorious, informal bloom

God-zooks crazy beautiful, festive bloom that shows best laying open in a shallow bowl, or a single elevate open bowl. The stems are short, too short to stand up in a bouquet, but a stunner as a solitary show-piece

Lovely Flower

Not quite as brilliant in color nor as large as the one in Swan's photo, but lovely anyway. Needed a longer growing season than I have in northern Idaho. Blooming in October. Good value at $9.99. Would upload my photo if you offered that option.
