Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

This is his third year in garden and he is thriving. Makes many tubers. First year he took his time and the first blooms were quite deformed. Second year he did a lot better. This year he is thriving. He did a lot better in the ground than in a grow bag this year, and bloomed late July. Big gorgeous blooms, and surprisingly good cut flower...laster 5 days for me as a cut flower. He is a keeper.

Tall beautiful flower
The blooms are very vibrant, nice size, and the plant was tall and sturdy. I loved all the flowers i got from SID that grew for me and I love how the tubers are clearly marked. They also come with a cute plant marker. Since I planted this later in the season I didn't get a many blooms as I could have but it was worth the wait.

First tuber turned to mush. Customer service had shipped anew on ASAP. Was able to get Uncle "B" into the ground and it produced "B"rilliant Blooms! Pics in catalog or website does not show its brilliance!
