How to Grow
Dahlias are grown from tubers (similar to a bulb, but thin-skinned like a potato). Plant tubers in the springtime, about the same time as you would your vegetable gardens or when the ground is warm enough to work up and play in daily. Plant them in a full sun location (giving them 6-8 hours of direct sunlight) and enjoy blooms all summer long. They will bloom and provide you with color and abundant flowers for cutting and enjoying throughout the summer.
The more you cut a dahlia plant, the more it will bloom. Most cut dahlias will last up to 5 days once cut and treated.

This has so much potential, but the two tubers I got haven't had any blooms open enough to cut without the edges browning. I'm not giving up on them yet, though.
I am obsessed with this variety! I’ve been growing it since 2021 and it never disappoints. Its tubers are easy to store and multiplies like crazy. It’s absolutely gorgeous as a cut flower, but honestly, it’s a showstopper just growing in the garden. A must-have for any dahlia lover!
Huge thick sturdy stems and extremely productive with big beautiful blooms, one of my very favorites this year!
One of my favs of last year. Good size flowers and nice color. Stems are fine for cutting.
Produced extremely well! Just like the picture, Perfect!
Great cuts and enhancer bloom!
Three years in, there is no more prolific flower machine in the garden. Dozens of blooms held high on long stems for cutting. The frustrating part is how hard it is to keep the bogs from spoiling them. I found that it takes nearly daily spraying from the time the buds start to unfurl. I wish I knew why and could find something to help.
Ever faithful, incredible producing large water, lily blooms that are so gracefully balanced with lavender and a whisper of yellow on the inside petals. The flowers make for wonderful arrangements with Strong, stems and long lasting blooms. Always a favorite and complements everything. A hearty, must have!!
One of my very favorites. I’m on my third year with this one, hoping to get more blooms with each year as it started a little slim and has improved each summer. Absolutely stunning color and size, i get so many compliments.
I've grown this Dahlia for two years. It is a spectacular plant with gorgeous blooms that keep coming. I plan to keep this one going.
This is my favorite dahlia, and has been the star of my garden for the last few years. This season it struggled, probably because of an extremely dry spring, and then a very rainy August. It had very few flowers, and they did not fully open. I'll definitely grow it every year though, since under the right conditions, the flowers absolutely glow, and are the most beautiful dahlias I've ever seen!
Absolutely stunning dahlia in pure white with a lavender edge. I loved pairing her with dark purple blooms like Diva and Ivanetti.
Love this one, blooms all season long but less as the weather cools. Beautiful full flowers, mostly white with lavendar edges with an occasional all white bloom. Strong stems for arrangements and pairs well with nearly anything. Zone 9b
I had all kinds of plans for another beautiful dahlia garden, but life got in the way this year. But, Mikayla Miranda has been the highlight of this year's dahlia garden. This one is new for me and in spite of all my neglect, this one did not disappoint. This will be a mainstay in my dahlia garden for many years to come.
The only downside to Michaela Miranda this is my third year with her. Is that the bugs love her I had a beetle problem this year and they just ate her alive.
That being said mid August got the bugs under control. Well they went underground but anyway she’s going like she always does so beautiful and perfect. I will always keep her in my garden, whole hedge of them fabulous.
This is my first year growing dahlias and the blossoms are incredible. Exactly as shown. Very Happy. :)
I live in zone 4, in Billings, MT. We are an arid climate. This dahlia is doing very well in my garden. The blooms are not as big as some are talking about. That may be because it has been getting watered by overhead sprinkler for 30 min 4 times a week. I do hand water some as well, but I haven't fertilized it yet and it is already August 18! I didn't know better; I am going to fertilize it tonight. Lovely, longlasting bloom. Pretty enough for me to learn how to dig and store for the winter. Will never compete with my iris obsession(400+ varieties), but a nice flower when few iris are in bloom. I do, however, have 2 different iris just about to bloom today
Plant grows tall and produces lots of blooms. Very nice as a cut flower. Storage over Montana winter this year destroyed all the dahlias. I'm buying this one again!
She keeps blooming, and again at the end of October in Delaware, huge blooms greet us at the house entrance. Our favorite.
I ordered seven tubers for 2022 season and this one did not sprout shoots after four weeks of planting. I contacted Swan Island and they replaced my tuber ASAP. I thank them for great customer service and for not making me wait a whole year to enjoy the beautiful blooms. Plant has sturdy long stem and beautiful blooms. Love the white petals with soft lavender hints on the tip.
This was the first of all my SID dahlias to bloom this year, and she took off! Good support required! She produces reliable stems that I can use for weekly bouquets and arrangements. She is as soft and elegant as the photos show. Pairs well with all summer colors, and steals the show in each arrangement.
What A Wonderful surprise. I almost didn’t get this one, but I’m glad I had limited options available & was swayed by the glowing reviews. You pick favorites from pictures, but then when actually growing in the garden, new favorites emerge. This became my *favorite* of the ones I’ve grown, and I did not expect that.
It’s a big bloom (and seems bigger than some listed with the same size), but still an EARLY and PROLIFIC bloomer.
Blooms are truly beautiful, changing shapes, from bud till finished flowering.
Cloudy or sunny, it GLOWS, and really stands out both from a long distance & up close. The petals literally sparkle in the sunlight (diamond dusting.) It always mesmerizes.
Not only is this stunning by itself, it really makes other blooms pop. My Ferncliff Copper planted next to it looks so much prettier next to these blooms. While I’ll be replacing some of the one’s I’ve got for other varieties, this one will probably always have a spot in my garden.
I live in Zone 4 (Idaho Mountains) I have a very short season. I have to start my Dahlias indoors in February, or else they get zapped by the frost sometimes even before the first bloom! I have resorted to only buying Early Bloomers. This is the largest Early Bloomer (as they tend to be smaller) Lately I have been growing them in Pots just so I could bring them inside if we got an early (Or late spring) Freeze. This one is large, healthy and blooming away, even in a pot.
My best grower in Zone 8b, Seattle area. I water deeply with a drip system, fertilized initially with steer manure, and give a low-nitrogen bloom fertilizer as recommended every 2 weeks. I have 8-10 blooms on a HUGE plant, it's closer to 4 feet tall. The blooms are exactly as pictured, mostly white with lavender-tipped edges.
I am so thrilled with this dahlia! July 31st in Minnesota and we've already gotten blooms and they are gorgeous! I bought this one based off other reviews and they were right. Easily one of my favorites!
Gorgeous blooms of white tipped in bright lavender. Breathtaking!
One of the first to bloom! Huge flowers that fade to white with a light hint of lavender along the edges as they age. Amazing in the garden and vase!
Lovely bloom that lasted very well in a vase. One of my favorites!
This is one of my favorites and it is difficult to have one favorite dahlia as there are many outstanding ones, but this one is truly an all-star dahlia. Blooms prolifically and has large blooms with very nice stems for cutting.
An absolute favorite! Beautiful white and lavender blooms! I will repurchase year after year as long as it is available.
Mikayla Miranda was everything we hoped for. Lovely blooms!
I only have rooms for under 20 plants. Every year I rotate some varieties in and out. This one stayed with me for 5+ years. It has the earliest blooms, makes excellent cut flowers and is very prolific. The flowers are absolutely breathtaking, they have a perfect waterlily shape and a nice color transition.
This dahlia is beautiful. Looks like the picture. It is very prolific with blooms.
